The demand for nurses continues to grow as the years go on. The BLS estimates that we will need over 500,000 more nurses by the year 2018. The high demand for nurses can be attributed to the fact that 1 in 4 currently employed RNs are over the age of 50 years old. The baby boomer generation is getting older each day, and will require more care in the future. The highest area of practice in demand is surgical services and critical care services.
