MTV to Debut Nurse Reality Show: Nurse Nation
Starting in September, MTV will be premiering a new reality show that puts nurses in the spotlight. MTV will be following travel and agency nurses as they embark on a new challenge at a new hospital in a brand new city. MTV released a synopsis of what the show will entail. Check it out below:
‘Nurse Nation’ is a new docu-series that follows nine twenty-something travel nurses all assigned to work at a new hospital in a brand new city for 13 weeks. Some of them have been doing this for years, while others are on their first tour. Cameras will be there every step of the way as they take on the unique challenges and intense pressures of working in the medical profession as they face life or death decisions every day. But it’s not ‘all work and no play.’ On days off, they take advantage of all that their host city has to offer, meet new people and potential new loves while often trying to keep previous relationships and friendships alive. It’s the ultimate ‘work-hard/play-hard’ lifestyle.
Will you tune in and follow these nurses on their journey? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Horrible show.
From a post on Facebook,
“I don’t dislike the show for the fact that it makes me look bad as a nurse. I dislike the show for the fact that the nurse-patient relationship relies on a patient’s ability to literally trust a nurse with his or her life. If this television show changes the public perception of nurses to the image of drunken wild children with only minimal competency, the problem isn’t the fact that our reputations are at stake. The problem is that an image like that erodes patient trust, consciously or otherwise. And if patients don’t trust the nurses who are supposed to care for them, they won’t seek out care. They won’t let you care for them. Making a caricature of the image of nursing is a threat to public safety, and for that, MTV should be pretty ashamed.”
Sandy,
How would you improve the show? What do you think MTV should do to correct the public perception that they are portraying?
