TITLE: Infection Control Professional
HOURS: Monday through Friday 9am-5pm
ASSIGNMENT TYPE: Temporary
LOCATION: (3) Openings - Syracuse, New Rochelle, Albany
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
This individual will support in investigating reports of communicable disease, working from a designated office. This person will be responsible for conducting the prescribed investigations when assigned a report in community settings, nursing homes, hospitals, diagnostic and treatment centers, assisted living or adult homes, shelters, schools, day care centers, etc.
DUTIES:
- Off-site Investigations
- Direct communication by telephone and email with the reporting facility, local health department, and other staff
- Maintain frequent communication with the facilities, local health departments and other programs or agencies involved in the investigation
- Coordinate and provide written summaries of all outbreak-associated conference calls
- Regularly monitor the outbreak until its end
- Responsible for Unit Completions i.e. reports, summaries, data analysis, etc.
- Development of recommendations
- Provisions of technical consultation and assistance
- Development of guidelines, educational tools, evaluation tools, etc.
- Provisions of training and education
- On-site Investigations
- All steps involved in and Off-Site Investigation Unit, AND:
- Coordinate planning and travel to the site to conduct reviews (with investigation team if indicated)
- On-site assessments as clinically indicated
- Send on-site assessment findings and supervisor approved recommendations to the facility in writing no later than 10 business days of the on-site evaluation
- Responsible for Unit completion including close out reports and summary reports
- Extended On-site Investigations (multiple on-site evaluations)
- All steps involved in an Off-Site Investigation AND:
- All steps involved in an On-Site Investigation AND:
- Continual monitoring and consultation with internal and external partners to determine if additional units using all steps in on-site investigations are necessary
- Responsible for Unit completion including close-out/final report and summary reports
- Other duties as may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Excellent communication skills both written & verbal
- Experience with report writing
- Infection control experience
- Ability to provide training and education as a technical consultant
- Ability to travel, required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a medical or public health related field with course work completed in the study of microbiology, immunology, or infectious disease, required. A Master’s degree in a medical or public health related field (as noted above), preferred.
- A minimum of two (2) years epidemiology, infection control, investigation of communicable diseases, or public health experience, required.
- Experience in Infection Control and Certification in Infection Control (CIC), preferred.
- Will consider a NYS Licensed Registered Nurse with communicable/infection control experience.
- Experience or course work completed in the study of emerging diseases such as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, enterovirus D68, and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, preferred.
